This was a very impressive first feature film by Zilberman. Great performances by Hoffman, Keener, and Ivanir. Walken could have given a bit more, his performance was a little too subdued. It definitely made me want to run out and listen to some Beethoven and some late quartets. Nothing ground breaking here, just a modest story well told and deftly performed. I wonder if my string-playing friends writhed in horror at the wrongness of all of the fingerings, positions and postures (as most of my musician friends cannot stand watching actors play musical instruments) or whether one movie about musicians finally got it right.
